AT&T flings cellphone network wide open?
Thursday, December 6th, 2007Sounds like a press release, almost verbatim. Stan Schoeder agrees.
Nothing was “flung” - you could always put your account SIM in an unlocked phone. And it isn’t any device we’re talking about here - it’s unlocked GSM devices only - CDMA, TDMA, etc. need not apply. iPhone - forget it - that’s “very special.”
I’m waiting for reports on the “don’t have to sign a contract” bit, which should start circulating the moment someone walks into an AT&T store looking for a new activation. As for making money with services carried across their network…I suspect we’ll be waiting a lot longer.
The funny thing is, I actually like AT&T. But these smarmy press releases disguised as journalism need to go.
UPDATE: Ditto.
